Target Information

Rat kynurenine-3-monooxygenase (KMO) is a 58 kDa outer-mitochondrial flavoprotein whose FAD-binding pocket and flexible active-site lid convert kynurenine to 3-hydroxykynurenine, steering tryptophan catabolism. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 210-223) between the FAD and substrate domains folds into a β-hairpin unique among rat oxidoreductases, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after mitochondrial isolation and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native KMO in hepatic outer membranes, spinal microglia, and renal proximal tubules, delivering crisp punctate staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to other kynurenine pathway enzymes.
