Rat Keratin 6A is a type II intermediate filament protein rapidly induced in stratified epithelia under stress or injury. It forms resilient heteropolymers with keratin 16, reinforcing the cytoskeleton of hyperproliferative keratinocytes in wounded skin, oral mucosa, and hair follicles. K6A confers mechanical resistance to shear and chemical insults, while serving as a reliable marker of activated, regenerative epithelium.
