Target Information
Rat intercellular adhesion molecule 2 (ICAM-2, CD102) is a 276-residue type I transmembrane glycoprotein whose two N-terminal Ig-like domains (D1-D2) bind the I-domain of integrin LFA-1 (αLβ2) and Mac-1 (αMβ2). A single transmembrane helix anchors the protein to endothelial and lymphocyte plasma membranes, while a short 27-aa cytoplasmic tail lacks signalling motifs but interacts with ezrin-radixin-moesin proteins. Constitutively expressed on vascular endothelium, platelets and dendritic cells, ICAM-2 localizes to tight junctions and microvilli. Antibodies raised against D1 or cytoplasmic peptide detect native, glycosylated and shed forms with negligible cross-reactivity to ICAM-1 or ICAM-3, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical visualization in rat tissue homogenates and sections.
