Target Information

Rat glucosidase alpha, acid (GAA) is a lysosomal hydrolase with conserved glycoside hydrolase family 31 structural domains, a core mediator of glycogen catabolism in acidic cellular compartments. It features an N-terminal signal peptide for lysosomal targeting, a catalytic domain with active-site residues critical for substrate hydrolysis, and a C-terminal domain for protein stability. It localizes predominantly to the lysosomes of rat skeletal muscle cells, cardiac myocytes and hepatocytes, with negligible expression in extracellular or cytosolic fractions. The protein mediates glycogen breakdown via α-1,4- and α-1,6-glycosidic bond cleavage, with conserved motifs differentiating it from cytosolic α-glucosidases.
