Target Information
Rat GATA-binding protein 1 (GATA1) is a 413-amino-acid nuclear transcription factor harboring tandem Cys-X2-Cys-X17-Cys-X2-Cys zinc fingers that bind (A/T)GATA(A/G) motifs; the N-terminal finger stabilizes DNA contact while the C-terminal finger confers sequence specificity and recruits FOG-1 cofactor. Expressed exclusively in erythroid, megakaryocytic, eosinophilic and mast cell lineages, the protein localizes to euchromatic nuclei during differentiation. Post-translational phosphorylation and acetylation modulate its trans-activation domain. Antibodies raised against full-length rat GATA1 or individual zinc-finger peptides detect native and modified isoforms with negligible cross-reactivity to GATA2-6, enabling selective immunoblot, immunohistochemistry and chromatin immunoprecipitation in rat hematopoietic tissues and cultured precursor cells.
