Target Information
Rat follicle stimulating hormone beta (FSHβ) is a secreted glycoprotein subunit encoded by the Fshb gene in Rattus norvegicus, mapped to chromosome 1. It belongs to the glycoprotein hormone beta subunit family, featuring conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds and N-linked glycosylation sites critical for structural stability. It localizes to pituitary secretory vesicles and systemic circulation, with tissue-specific expression restricted to rat anterior pituitary gonadotrophs, absent in peripheral tissues. The protein forms heterodimers with common alpha subunit to form functional FSH, with conserved motifs for subunit assembly and structural integrity. Rat FSHβ shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct structural features differentiating it from LHβ, FSHβ and TSHβ subunits.
