Rat ECAM is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with tandem extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It specifically localizes on the plasma membrane of vascular endothelial cell populations across capillary and large vessel tissues. Its cell-surface adhesive structural framework and endothelium-restricted expression differentiate it from soluble circulating signaling proteins, cytoplasmic signal adaptors and intranuclear transcriptional regulators with streamlined single-domain assemblies and static single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
