Target Information
Rat elastin microfibril interface located protein 1 (EMILIN-1) is a 1,016-residue secreted glycoprotein that oligomerizes into disulfide-bonded trimers through an N-terminal coiled-coil, while its C-terminal gC1q domain mediates collagen and elastin binding. The central region contains tandem EMI repeats that bridge elastic fibers with surrounding microfibrils, creating a molecular interface at sites of elastogenesis. Constitutively expressed in aorta, lung and skin, the protein localizes to elastic laminae and interstitial bundles. Antibodies raised against full-length or gC1q-truncated rat EMILIN-1 detect native trimers and monomers with negligible cross-reactivity to EMILIN-2 or other gC1q proteins, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical detection in rat tissue homogenates and sections.
