Target Information

Rat Collagen Type II Alpha 1 (COL2A1) is a major structural component of cartilage and vitreous humor. It forms heterotrimeric collagen fibers that provide tensile strength and resilience to these tissues. COL2A1 is synthesized by chondrocytes and is essential for maintaining the integrity and function of cartilage. Its expression is tightly regulated during development and is critical for proper joint formation and maintenance. Abnormalities in COL2A1 are associated with cartilage degeneration and joint diseases. It is an important target for studying cartilage biology and related disorders in rat models.
