Target Information
Rat cluster of differentiation 99 (CD99) is a 185-residue, O-linked glycoprotein that spans the plasma membrane twice, leaving a short cytoplasmic N-terminus, a glycosylated extracellular loop of ~120 residues, and a cytoplasmic C-tail rich in proline and charged amino acids. The molecule exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer whose extracellular domain carries the highly conserved MIC2 epitope. CD99 is abundantly expressed on thymocytes, T-cell lines, endothelium, and primitive hematopoietic precursors, with weaker surface presence on mature B cells and fibroblasts. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies directed against rat CD99 bind native dimers with negligible cross-reactivity to mouse or human orthologues, permitting precise immunohistochemical and flow-cytometric detection in rat lymphoid tissues and cultured cells.
