Rat CD1d is a non-polymorphic MHC class I-like glycoprotein that presents lipid antigens to NKT cells. Constitutively expressed on antigen-presenting cells and some epithelia, it enables rapid cytokine release central to innate-adaptive immune crosstalk. Specific antibody detection provides a precise tool for mapping lipid-presenting compartments and monitoring NKT-cell activation in rat models of immunity, infection and metabolic disease.
