Target Information
Rat cluster of differentiation 146 (CD146) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, a key mediator of cell adhesion and vascular homeostasis. It features three conserved extracellular Ig-like domains, a single transmembrane segment, and a cytoplasmic tail with phosphorylation motifs critical for structural integrity and signal transduction. It localizes to the cell membranes of rat vascular endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and activated lymphocytes, with negligible levels in non-vascular and resting immune tissues. The protein mediates endothelial cell migration and leukocyte adhesion, with conserved motifs for binding to integrins and extracellular matrix components. Rat CD146 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from other adhesion molecules.
