Target Information
Rat claudin 1 (CLDN1) is a 22-kDa transmembrane protein predominantly expressed at epithelial tight junctions (TJs) of rat tissues, including intestine, skin, and liver. As a core TJ component, it forms ion-selective pores and interacts with other claudins/occludin to stabilize barrier structure, regulating paracellular permeability and tissue integrity. Beyond barrier function, it modulates rat epithelial cell differentiation, proliferation, and immune signaling. Critical for mucosal defense, skin barrier function, and hepatobiliary homeostasis, its dysregulation associates with inflammatory bowel disease, skin disorders, and hepatic fibrosis. As a key mediator of TJ permeability and epithelial function, rat CLDN1 is a critical target for studying barrier pathobiology, inflammatory disorders, and barrier-protective therapeutics.
