Rat cell death inducing DFFA like effector C (CIDEC) is a cytoplasmic lipid droplet-associated protein of the CIDE family, a core regulator of lipid metabolism and storage. It features a conserved N-terminal lipid-binding domain, a central CIDE homology region, and a C-terminal oligomerization motif critical for structural integrity and protein interaction. It localizes to the surface of lipid droplets in rat adipocytes and hepatocytes, with negligible levels in muscle and immune tissues. The protein mediates lipid droplet fusion and triglyceride accumulation, with conserved motifs for binding to lipid droplet-associated proteins. Rat CIDEC shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from CIDEA and CIDEB.
