Rat casp8 and FADD like apoptosis regulator (CFLAR) is a cytoplasmic protein of the tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor family. It features conserved death effector domains, a caspase-like region and protein-protein interaction motifs critical for structural stability. It localizes to cell cytoplasm, with tissue-specific expression in rat immune cells, liver and kidney, with low levels in skeletal muscle. The protein mediates apoptotic signal modulation, with conserved binding motifs for intermolecular association. Rat CFLAR shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct specificity differentiating it from related apoptotic regulators.
