Rat carbonyl reductase 1 (CBR1) is a cytosolic oxidoreductase with a conserved NADPH-binding domain and a compact active-site pocket. It shows broad tissue distribution and localizes primarily to the cytoplasm of hepatic, renal and epithelial cells. The protein adopts a stable α/β folding pattern essential for cofactor recognition and molecular interaction. Its distinct substrate-binding cleft and sequence features distinguish it from other short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase family members.
