Target Information
Rat carbonic anhydrase VI (CA-VI) is a 37 kDa secreted zinc metalloenzyme whose funnel-shaped active site interconverts CO₂ and bicarbonate, buffering saliva and airway fluid. A solvent-exposed 16-aa "KVE" loop (aa 185-200) between β7 and α5 folds into a β-hairpin unique among rat CA isoforms, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after deglycosylation and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native CA-VI in parotid acinar cells, salivary ducts, and tracheal epithelium, delivering crisp apical granules and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to cytosolic CA-I or CA-II.
