Target Information
Rat carbonic anhydrase IV (CA IV) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored metalloenzyme of the CA family, a key mediator of carbon dioxide hydration and bicarbonate transport. It features a conserved catalytic domain with zinc-binding histidine residues, a glycosylation site, and a C-terminal GPI anchor critical for membrane attachment and enzymatic activity. It localizes to the cell membranes of rat renal proximal tubules, pulmonary alveoli and gastrointestinal epithelia, with negligible levels in muscle and neural tissues. The protein mediates acid-base homeostasis and ion transport, with conserved motifs for substrate binding and inhibitor interaction. Rat CA IV shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from CA II and CA IX.
