Target Information

Rat Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) is a 37-amino acid neuropeptide that exists in two major forms, αCGRP and βCGRP, with high sequence conservation across species. In rats, αCGRP is predominantly expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems, while βCGRP is more abundant in the enteric nervous system. CGRP is synthesized from a preproprotein and cleaved to form the mature peptide, which plays a crucial role in pain transmission, vasodilation, and inflammatory processes. It activates specific receptors, including the CGRP receptor and the AMY1 receptor, which are involved in various physiological functions.
