Its soluble multi-domain signaling architecture and broad tissue production distinguish it from transmembrane receptors, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and chromatin-associated nuclear transcription factors with simplified single-domain assemblies showing narrow expression in specialized somatic cell groups.
