Target Information
Rat 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2) is a microsomal NAD-dependent oxidase that inactivates glucocorticoids by converting corticosterone to 11-dehydrocorticosterone. Expressed predominantly in distal nephron, colon and placenta, the enzyme forms an N-terminal membrane anchor followed by a cytosol-facing catalytic domain, shielding mineralocorticoid receptors from cortisol excess. Its selective reductive counterpart 11β-HSD1 is abundant in liver and adipose tissue, creating an intracellular glucocorticoid shuttle. Antibodies recognizing 11β-HSD2 enable precise mapping of renal tubule segmentation, mineralocorticoid target specificity and stress-related metabolic regulation in rat kidney sections and tissue homogenates.
