Target Information

Porcine interleukin 18 (IL-18) is a cytokine that plays a significant role in modulating immune responses and inflammation. It is synthesized as a precursor protein and processed into its mature form by the enzyme IL-1β-converting enzyme (ICE). IL-18 is expressed in various cell types, including macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells. It is known for its ability to induce interferon-γ (IFN-γ) production in T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, thereby promoting a Th1-mediated immune response. In addition to its immune-regulating functions, IL-18 enhances the cytotoxic activity of NK cells and stimulates the proliferation of activated T cells. It also plays a role in the innate immune response, particularly in combating infections and regulating inflammation.
