Target Information

Porcine Hepcidin is a vital peptide hormone involved in iron metabolism regulation. It is synthesized mainly in the liver and controls iron absorption and distribution by inhibiting ferroportin activity. This regulatory mechanism helps maintain iron homeostasis and prevents iron overload or deficiency. Hepcidin is also part of the innate immune response, with antimicrobial properties that contribute to host defense. Dysregulation of hepcidin is associated with iron-related disorders and infections. It is a significant target for studying iron balance and immune function in porcine models.
