Target Information

Porcine galectin 12 (GAL12) is a cytoplasmic β-galactoside-binding lectin of the galectin family, a core regulator of adipocyte differentiation and lipid metabolism. It features conserved carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs) for galactoside binding, N-terminal and C-terminal structural motifs, and domains critical for protein dimerization and intracellular localization. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm of porcine adipose tissue cells, with negligible expression in non-adipose tissues. The protein mediates adipogenesis and lipid accumulation, with conserved motifs for binding to glycoproteins and glycolipids. Porcine GAL12 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from GAL1 and GAL3.
