Porcine cytochrome P450 11A1 (CYP11A1) is a mitochondrial membrane-bound monooxygenase, a core component of the steroid hormone biosynthesis pathway. It features a conserved heme-binding domain critical for catalytic activity, an N-terminal mitochondrial targeting sequence, and a hydrophobic membrane anchor region for subcellular localization. It localizes predominantly to the inner mitochondrial membrane of porcine adrenal cortical cells and gonadal tissues, with negligible expression in non-steroidogenic organs. The protein mediates cholesterol side-chain cleavage reactions, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from other cytochrome P450 family members.
