Target Information
Pig coagulation factor V is a critical plasma protein involved in the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as a cofactor for Factor Xa, significantly accelerating the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, which is essential for clot formation. Factor V is synthesized in the liver and circulates in an inactive form until activated by thrombin. It plays a key role in both the intrinsic and common pathways of coagulation. Deficiencies or mutations in Factor V can lead to bleeding disorders, while its excessive activation is associated with thrombotic conditions.
