Target Information

Oxytocin is a 9-amino-acid cyclic neuropeptide whose disulfide-bridged ring and C-terminal amide bind the oxytocin receptor, triggering uterine contraction and milk ejection. A solvent-exposed 6-aa "KVE" sequence (aa 4-9) within the cyclic core presents a conformational epitope preserved after fixation and secretion. Antibodies to this sequence detect native oxytocin in hypothalamic paraventricular nuclei, posterior pituitary and plasma, yielding crisp granular staining and single-band blots without cross-reaction to vasopressin.

Target Oxytocin
Target Synonym Pitocin; Syntocinon
