Target Information
Mouse synaptosomal associated protein 23kDa (SNAP23) is a soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) family member, a core mediator of membrane fusion in exocytic and endocytic pathways. It features two conserved heptad-repeat SNARE domains critical for forming ternary SNARE complexes, a central linker region, and a C-terminal palmitoylation motif for membrane anchoring. It localizes predominantly to the plasma membrane of mouse epithelial cells, immune cells and endothelial cells, with negligible expression in synaptic terminals of neurons. The protein mediates vesicle-plasma membrane fusion events, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from neuronal SNAP25.
