Target Information
Mouse surfactant protein C (SP-C) is a hydrophobic pulmonary protein of the surfactant-associated protein family. It features a conserved transmembrane domain, a polyvaline hydrophobic core and N-terminal processing sites critical for structural stability. It localizes to alveolar type II cell membranes and pulmonary surfactant lipid bilayers, with tissue-specific expression restricted to mouse lung tissue, with negligible levels in other organs. The protein mediates surfactant film organization and biophysical activity, with conserved motifs for lipid interaction. Mouse SP-C shares core structural features with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct hydrophobicity differentiating it from SP-A and SP-B.
