Target Information

Mouse Serine Palmitoyltransferase, Long Chain Base Subunit 2 (SPTLC2) is a core enzyme of the de novo sphingolipid pathway, catalyzing the condensation of serine with palmitoyl-CoA to form 3-ketodihydrosphingosine. Widely expressed in brain, liver, and lung, it supplies ceramide and sphingomyelin precursors for membrane architecture and bioactive lipids. SPTLC2 activity modulates apoptosis, inflammation, and insulin sensitivity. As the rate-limiting step in sphingolipid biosynthesis, SPTLC2 is a key target for studies of metabolic disease, neurodegeneration, and cancer biology.
