Mouse PRDX3 is a mitochondria-resident antioxidant protein built with conserved redox-active functional pockets. It maintains stable molecular folding and complete catalytic domains under physiological conditions, abundantly present in the mitochondrial matrix of various cell populations. Its exclusive intra-mitochondrial localization and unique redox-regulating structural features clearly separate it from plasma membrane receptors, secreted extracellular signaling proteins and intranuclear transcription factors with distinct domain layouts and separate subcellular distribution patterns.
