Target Information

Mouse osteocrin (OSTN) is a secreted peptide encoded by the Ostn gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 1. It belongs to the osteocrin family of secreted regulatory peptides, featuring a conserved N-terminal signal peptide, a mature peptide domain and conserved cysteine residues critical for structural stability. It localizes to extracellular matrix and circulation, with tissue-specific expression in mouse skeletal muscle and osteoblasts, with negligible levels in visceral and neural tissues. The protein mediates tissue-specific regulatory functions, with conserved motifs for receptor binding and bioactivity. Mouse OSTN shares core structural features with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct expression profiles differentiating it from related regulatory peptides.
