Mouse nitric oxide synthase 1 adaptor protein (NOS1AP) is a cytoplasmic scaffolding protein of the NOS1 regulatory family. It features a conserved N-terminal PDZ-binding domain, central coiled-coil motifs and C-terminal protein-interaction sites critical for structural integrity. It localizes to cell cytoplasm, synaptic membranes and neuronal perikarya, with tissue-specific expression in mouse brain, spinal cord and peripheral neurons, with negligible levels in non-neuronal tissues. The protein mediates NOS1 complex assembly and subcellular targeting, with conserved motifs for intermolecular association. Mouse NOS1AP shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct neuronal specificity differentiating it from other NOS adaptor proteins.
