Target Information
Mouse nexilin (NEXN) is a cytoplasmic actin-binding protein encoded by the Nexn gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 4. It belongs to the nexilin protein family, featuring conserved N-terminal actin-binding domains, multiple proline-rich motifs and a C-terminal domain critical for cytoskeletal anchoring. It localizes to sarcolemma adhesion sites and actin stress fibers, with tissue-specific expression in mouse cardiac and skeletal muscle, with minimal levels in smooth muscle and non-muscle tissues. The protein mediates cytoskeletal organization and cell adhesion, with conserved motifs for protein interaction and structural stability. Mouse NEXN shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from other actin-binding proteins.
