Target Information

Mouse Neurotrophin 3 (NT3) is a member of the neurotrophin family, which includes nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and neurotrophin 4 (NT4). NT3 plays a crucial role in the survival, differentiation, and function of various neuronal populations. It is synthesized as a precursor protein and then proteolytically processed to generate the mature form. In the developing nervous system, NT3 promotes the growth and survival of sensory and sympathetic neurons. It also supports the survival of motor neurons and influences the development of neuromuscular junctions. NT3 exerts its effects by binding to the TrkC receptor and, to a lesser extent, the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR). In mouse models, NT3 is essential for maintaining the health and plasticity of the nervous system.
