Target Information

Mouse neurocan (NCAN) is a secreted chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan of the lectican family. It features a conserved N-terminal immunoglobulin-like domain, central glycosaminoglycan attachment sites and a C-terminal lectin domain critical for structural stability. It localizes to extracellular matrix of mouse brain, spinal cord and developing neural tissues, with negligible levels in non-neuronal organs. The protein mediates cell adhesion modulation and axon guidance, with conserved motifs for protein-carbohydrate interaction. Mouse NCAN shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct neural tissue specificity differentiating it from aggrecan and brevican.
