Target Information

Mouse Mucin 5 Subtype AC (MUC5AC) is a gel-forming mucin predominantly expressed in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. It forms a protective mucus layer that traps pathogens and particulates, facilitating their clearance. MUC5AC is secreted by goblet cells and submucosal glands, contributing to airway hydration and barrier function. Its overproduction is associated with chronic airway diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As a key component of airway mucus, MUC5AC is an important target for studying respiratory diseases and mucosal defense mechanisms.
