Target Information
Mouse matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) is a secreted zinc-dependent endopeptidase of the MMP family, a core regulator of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. It features a conserved N-terminal signal peptide, a pro-peptide domain, a catalytic domain with zinc-binding motif, and a C-terminal hemopexin-like domain critical for substrate specificity and protein stability. It localizes to the extracellular spaces of mouse inflammatory, epithelial and stromal cells, with negligible levels in quiescent tissues. The protein mediates ECM degradation and cell migration, with conserved motifs for binding to collagens, gelatin and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). Mouse MMP9 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct substrate selectivity differentiating it from MMP2 and MMP7.
