Target Information
Mouse matrix metalloproteinase 20 (MMP20) is a secreted zinc-dependent endopeptidase of the MMP superfamily, a key mediator of extracellular matrix remodeling. It features a conserved N-terminal signal peptide, a propeptide domain, a catalytic domain with zinc-binding motifs, and a hemopexin-like C-terminal domain critical for structural integrity and substrate specificity. It localizes to mouse dental enamel matrices and developing tooth tissues, with negligible levels in non-dental organs. The protein mediates enamel matrix protein degradation and tooth mineralization, with conserved motifs for substrate binding and enzymatic activation. Mouse MMP20 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct substrate selectivity differentiating it from MMP8 and MMP9.
