Mouse lipocalin 5 (LCN5) is a secreted glycoprotein encoded by the Lcn5 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 2. It belongs to the lipocalin superfamily, featuring a conserved eight-stranded beta-barrel structure, a ligand-binding pocket and N-linked glycosylation sites critical for stability. It localizes to bodily fluids and extracellular space, with tissue-specific expression in mouse lacrimal glands, reproductive tissues and respiratory mucosa, with negligible levels in visceral organs. The protein mediates small-molecule ligand transport, with conserved motifs for ligand capture and binding affinity. Mouse LCN5 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct ligand specificity differentiating it from LCN1, LCN2 and other lipocalin family members.
