Target Information
Mouse large multifunctional peptidase 7 (LMP7, also PSMB8) is the catalytic β5i subunit of the immunoproteasome. It targets hydrophobic and basic residues within polypeptides, cleaving them after large amino-acid side-chains to generate peptides suited for MHC class I loading. LMP7 replaces the constitutive β5 subunit during interferon-γ exposure, shifting proteasome specificity toward antigen processing and inflammatory signaling without altering basal protein turnover. Its unique N-terminal threonine active site and immunoproteasome-restricted expression offer a selective epitope for antibody generation; anti-LMP7 clones therefore detect immune-activated proteasomes in tissue sections and cell lysates without cross-reacting with standard proteasome counterparts.
