Target Information

Mouse katanin p60 subunit A 1 (KATNA1) is the catalytic core of the katanin microtubule-severing complex, a key regulator of microtubule dynamics and cytoskeletal remodeling. It features a conserved N-terminal ATPase domain critical for hydrolyzing ATP to drive microtubule cleavage, a central microtubule-binding region, and a C-terminal domain for assembling with regulatory subunits. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm and centrosomes of mouse dividing cells, neurons and epithelial cells, with negligible expression in quiescent cell populations. The protein mediates microtubule severing via ATP-dependent conformational changes, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from other microtubule-associated proteins.
