Target Information

Mouse interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α) is a 17 kDa pro-inflammatory cytokine that, once released from the cytosol or cleaved by calpain, binds the IL-1 receptor on fibroblasts, endothelial and immune cells, triggering MyD88-dependent NF-κB activation to amplify early inflammation. Its β-trefoil core presents a unique, species-restricted epitope ideal for antibody generation; anti-IL-1α immunoreagents enable quantification of both precursor and mature forms in tissue homogenates, supernatants and fixed sections without cross-reacting with IL-1β or IL-1Ra, providing a precise read-out of damage-associated inflammatory signaling.
