Target Information

Mouse integrin β6 is an 804-residue type I transmembrane subunit that pairs exclusively with αV to form the αVβ6 heterodimer. Its extracellular region contains a plexin-semaphorin-integrin (PSI) domain, four EGF-like repeats, a β-tail specific to β6, and an 11-residue cytoplasmic tail with a unique TSXXRXRXD motif that recruits kindlin-1. Expressed selectively on epithelial cells of lung, skin and gut, β6 localizes to focal adhesions and the leading edge of wounds. Antibodies raised against the β-tail or cytoplasmic peptide detect native, glycosylated and cleaved forms with negligible cross-reactivity to other β subunits, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical detection in mouse tissue homogenates and cultured epithelial cells.
