Target Information
Mouse importin 8 (IPO8) is a 1,037-residue β-karyopherin built from twenty tandem HEAT repeats that generate a superhelical groove for cargo recognition. The N-terminal region binds RanGTP, while a central loop clamps phosphorylated SR proteins and retroviral cores. Constitutively expressed in all tissues, IPO8 shuttles between nucleus and cytoplasm in a Ran-dependent manner, concentrating at the nuclear rim during interphase. Antibodies raised against full-length or C-terminal peptide detect native IPO8 with negligible cross-reactivity to importin β or transportin, enabling precise immunoblot and immunofluorescence in mouse tissue homogenates and cultured cells.
