Target Information
Mouse hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A synthase (HMGCS) is a metabolic enzyme encoded by Hmgcs genes in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 1 (Hmgcs1) and 7 (Hmgcs2). It belongs to the HMG-CoA synthase family, featuring a conserved catalytic domain, substrate-binding pocket and CoA-binding motif critical for enzymatic activity. It has differential subcellular localization: cytosolic HMGCS1 exists in all tissues while mitochondrial HMGCS2 is restricted to liver and intestine. The protein harbors conserved structural motifs for catalytic reaction and conformational stability. Mouse HMGCS shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue distribution and subcellular localization differentiating its two isoforms from each other and other metabolic enzymes.
