Target Information
Mouse histidine decarboxylase (HDC) is a cytoplasmic pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme, a core mediator of histamine biosynthesis in mammalian cells. It features a conserved N-terminal catalytic domain with histidine-binding motifs, a central regulatory region for enzyme activation, and a C-terminal domain critical for structural stability. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm of mouse mast cells, enterochromaffin-like cells and basophils, with negligible expression in non-hematopoietic and non-gastrointestinal tissues. The protein mediates decarboxylation of L-histidine to histamine, with conserved residues for coenzyme binding and substrate recognition. Mouse HDC shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from other amino acid decarboxylases.
