Mouse HMOX2 is a constitutive membrane-bound enzyme containing conserved heme-binding catalytic domains to retain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It mainly localizes to endoplasmic reticulum compartments of neuronal, endothelial and epithelial cell populations across diverse tissues. Its membrane-associated enzymatic structure and ubiquitous basal expression differentiate it from soluble secreted signaling factors, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and intranuclear transcriptional regulators with streamlined single-domain assemblies and static single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
