Target Information

Mouse glycophorin C (GYPC) is a 14 kDa type-I transmembrane sialoglycoprotein whose N-terminal 40-residue segment carries 12 O-linked sugars, forming a negatively charged coat that stabilizes red-cell membrane via interaction with protein 4.1 and p55. A solvent-exposed 12-aa "KVE" loop (aa 35-46) between glycosylation clusters folds into a β-turn unique among mouse erythroid glycoproteins, presenting a fixation-stable epitope absent from glycophorin A. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native GYPC in bone-marrow erythroblasts, circulating reticulocytes, and splenic red pulp, delivering crisp membrane rings and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to glycophorin A or band 3.
