Target Information
Mouse gelsolin is an 82 kDa actin-filament severing and capping protein that targets and remodels F-actin networks in response to calcium and phosphoinositide signals. Its six gelsolin-repeat domains bind actin monomers and filaments, facilitating rapid cytoskeletal reorganization during cell movement, endocytosis and apoptosis. The conserved N-terminal severing fragment presents a unique, species-restricted epitope ideal for antibody generation; anti-gelsolin immunoreagents detect full-length and cleaved forms in cytosol, plasma and tissue extracts without cross-reacting with other actin-binding proteins, providing a precise read-out of cytoskeletal dynamics and injury responses.
